Projects

If I feel I can add value to a local project, I will happily agree to help out.

Cardinal Newman Heritage Project
I was invited to join the steering committee of the Cardinal Newman Heritage Project to advise on community engagement and internet communication. The lottery-funded project seeks to examine the cultural legacy, investment and heritage of the life and work of the late Cardinal John Henry Newman on the Ladywood area. A major feature of the project will be intergenerational learning with local schoolchildren producing a DVD to permanently remember the project.

Oxjam Brum Festival
I volunteer as the Community Participation Coordinator for Oxjam's Regional Team in Birmingham. Oxjam is Oxfam's very own nationwide music festival, supporting Oxfam's emergency work to save lives, their longer term development programmes and campaign work. My work involves motivating and encouraging volunteers to run their own Oxjam music events - and to raise awareness for Oxfam's Here and Now climate change campaign. I am also working with the George Dixon International School on City Road.

SHOUT Festival
I am on the steering committee of SHOUT, Birmingham's first LGBT cultural festival. It is a bold and ambitious festival that will include arts, sports and politics providing lots of opportunities to get involved. The festival will attract LGBT visitors from across the UK, raising the profile of Birmingham’s lesbian and gay community and changing the way in which we the community is represented throughout the city.
